After Ensemble Diderot established itself as an internationally renowned ambassador for the masterful late repertoire of the ‘sonata a tre’, having given new polish to well-known major works of the literature as well as adding unknown treasures to the canon, it takes up in this programme the repertoire of the ‘sonata a quattro’. Owing to its appearance shortly before the emergence of the string quartet, the ‘sonata a quattro’ was largely disregarded, yet occupied an important intermediary role between the baroque and the early classical era.
S’il s’est imposé sur la scène internationale dans le répertoire de la sonate en trio par ses relectures innovantes de chefs-d’œuvre incontestés et l’enrichissement du corpus grâce à la découverte de véritables pépites musicales, l’Ensemble Diderot consacre cet nouvel album à la sonate à quatre ! Apparu peu avant l’émergence du quatuor à cordes et resté dans son ombre, le genre a pourtant joué un rôle déterminant dans la transition entre le baroque et le préclassique.
Nachdem sich das Ensemble Diderot als international angesehener Botschafter für das meisterhaft finale Repertoire der „Sonata a tre“ etabliert hat und sowohl bekannten Hauptwerken der Literatur einen neuen Schliff gegeben, als auch unbekannte Schätze dem Kanon hinzugefügt hat, nimmt es sich in diesem Programm dem Repertoire der „Sonata a quattro“ an. Durch ihr Erscheinen kurz vor dem Aufkommen des Streichquartetts blieb sie weitgehend unberücksichtigt, nahm jedoch eine wichtige vermittelnde Rolle zwischen Barock und Frühklassik ein.
